Everyone must heard some funny statements from their parents while growing up. Most of the myths are turned into facts in our parent’s minds for generations. Let’s discuss such myths and get some knowledge of the facts.

  1. Swallowing gums

Remember eating chewing gums in our childhood? We never swallow them in the stomach. We chewed thoroughly and used to spit out before swallowing. Our parents used to say gums will not be digested and they will stay five to seven years inside the stomach.

But the fact is, most of the chewing gums are not digestible but they will travel along with the system and finally poops out after 2-4 days.

2. Sitting close to the TV can cause blindness

Sitting too close to the TV cannot cause blindness but it will strain our eyes. So, our parents used to say this myth to protect our eyes.

3. Cracking knuckles causes arthritis

Many of us had fun cracking knuckles right? But our parents asked us to stop it because it can cause arthritis. The fact is, the cracking sound that appeared is the release of gas bubbles in the joints.

4. Crossing your eyes leads to stuck

This is a completely false statement. Crossing our eyes won’t make them get stuck. It was said to prevent us from making weird faces in front of everyone. But, imagining such faces is funny right?

5. Eating carrots gives you night vision

Although carrots are a rich source of Vitamin A, they don’t give you a superhero vision. Parents made us believe it to let us eat carrots every day for good eye health.

6. Going outside with wet hair causes cold

In general, we get cold because of the viruses but not due to wet hair or cold weathers. They told us this myth to dry our hair and to avoid discomfort.

7. Swallowed watermelon seeds can grow in our stomach

Honestly, the stomach cannot grow up plants. This myth was created to prevent kids from swallowing the seeds and getting stuck in the throat.

8. Drinking coffee can affect your height

Parents used to say this to prevent kids from drinking coffee. However, there is no scientific proof that coffee can affect your growth.

9. Santa Claus is watching you!

This may not be a myth to many kids. But, it was the best myth that made us behave the best.

10. Chocolates cause acne

Poor diet can affect the skin health. But, chocolates are not responsible for skin acne.
